In Mumbai, the former Bombay, you will give your guests an embarkation like they’ve never experienced before. First, you will all dive into the lively hustle and bustle of India’s largest metropolis. You’ll explore the neighbourhood around St. George Fort, the financial heart of the city, on foot, uncovering the Victorian magnificence that gives an idea of the richness of the former British Empire. After lunch, you’ll board a classic double-decker bus and ride to the Bollywood film studios for even more glamour and glitter. Your guests will have the chance to play their parts on stage in a genuine Bollywood movie. And then it’s finally time! The captain of the Le Ponant taxis out of the harbour, hoists the sails and sets a course for the open ocean. While your taste buds are being tickled by fine French cuisine, you’ll find out how this streamlined ship – with just 64 passengers on board – cuts a swath through the waves. One azure-blue day at sea later, you’ll drop anchor in Mormugao, where you’ll go onshore to visit Goa, famous for its pearly white beaches and Portuguese colonial past. Browse around the fur market, breathe in the scents at the spice plantations and admire the antiquated churches, plantations and cathedrals. Your following mooring is at the New Mangalore Port, at Panambur, Mangalore in Karanataka state, where you’ll discover winding little streets, coffee and cashews.
But we have saved the most beautiful for last: the ancient port city of Kochi. This “Queen of the Arabian Sea” is the point of departure for a journey through the famous Indian backwaters. In a motorboat or traditional houseboat, you’ll drift through the small channels and mangroves, while gliding past temples, rice patties and the colourful rural life.
